Desde julio, cuando firmó con el club de la MLS, Messi lo ha ayudado a conquistar el título de la Leagues Cup, al ganar la final ante Nashville. De igual forma, Miami fue finalista de la US Open Cup. La escuadra floridana suma ocho triunfos y cuatro empates en los 12 partidos en los que Messi ha aparecido en la alineación.
Sin Messi, Miami no pudo mejorar su posición en la Conferencia Este, con lo que se ha complicado las posibilidades de avanzar a los playoffs. Inter inició el sábado en el 14to sitio del Este, a cinco puntos de Montreal, que ocupa la novena plaza, última que reparte un boleto para el repechaje de postemporada, cuando restan tres fechas.
