It’s the first Monday in May (at least in New York City), and that means it’s time for Anna Wintour’s Met Gala aka fashion’s biggest night.
Each year, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour appoints a number of celebrities to act as her co-chairs of the Met Gala, based on who is trending – fashionably, culturally, or in the sporting arena – at the time.The co-chairs are ambassadors for the event but also play a hands-on role in deciding the theme, guest list and decorations – all of which is signed off by Wintour.
This year’s group also includes Challengers star Zendaya, rapper Bad Bunny and singer-actress Jennifer Lopez.You may be wondering, “Why these four?” Well, aside from being one of the major cultural and fashion events of the year, the Met Gala is a fundraiser for the Met museum’s costume institute, so it’s ideal if the event can reach new audiences. Cue Hemsworth’s 59 million Instagram followers, and that may give you a clue.
