The allegedly deliberate crash left one officer fighting for life in a Brisbane hospital and injured two colleagues.

A police officer has recounted being trapped in the wreckage of his van with broken arms and legs and slowly bleeding out after a horrific head-on crash almost six months ago.

The three officers in the police van were Senior Constable Russell McKelvey, 37, Constable Callum McBride Whitehead, 24, and Constable Cassidy Cleary, 23. A 28-year-old man was later charged with three counts of attempted murder, related to the officers, as well as dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful wounding and driving whilst disqualified.Despite being badly injured in the line of duty, Senior Constable McKelvey is keen to return.“But I love the job, I wouldn’t have got this support from any other workplace. I want to come back, and I still have at least 20 years to give to the Queensland Police Service.
