Bike riders warn the steel stakes could cause 'a lot of damage and grief' as police and national rangers investigate the discovery in Noosa.
Mountain bike riders are being warned to stay vigilant after more than a dozen sharpened steel spikes were found hidden along a popular trail in Noosa, on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
Alton Twine says it is unusual for people to have a problem with mountain bike riding as the sport is quiet." is all ages so ... it could be kids out there ," he said.Mr Twine said it would be unusual for someone to target mountain bike riders, given the sport was quiet and low-impact."I am aware of instances where people have taken measures into their own hands against trail riders, which again is not a good thing at all," he said.
"They're of course concerned about the implications of someone riding over one of these spikes, and what damage could be caused to their bikes, and actual injuries to people as well.""It's unknown how long the spikes had been there, and the intent behind them," a police spokeswoman said.Mr McQueeney said there was no way to know how many more of the spikes were hidden along the bike, walking and horse trails in the area.
