But it does include the "interface" areas where Melbourne meets the country, and the Mitchell Shire, centred around Seymour.Also known as Greater Melbourne, Metropolitan Melbourne takes in about 5 million people across almost 10,000 square kilometres.Further east, it includes rural parts of the Yarra Ranges, including much of the now abandoned town of Cambarville and the Yarra Ranges National Park, and the growing suburbs of Officer and Pakenham.
