Christine Flack has been campaigning for four years for the truth about why her daughter Caroline was charged with assaulting her boyfriend against the advice of prosecutors

The Metropolitan Police will reinvestigate the lead-up to the decision to charge late TV presenter Caroline Flack as “new witness evidence may be available”, the force said.

This officer had reportedly played a role in challenging the Crown Prosecution Service's suggestion to issue Caroline with just a caution for the incident involving Lewis Burton. Highlighting the irregularities of that night, Christine remarked: "Something very unusual happened to Carrie at the police station that night, but no one kept a proper record explaining why. I have now made a complaint to compel the officer to give the statement we think he should have given four years ago. As a family, we have been left with important unanswered questions."

Police were called to her North London flat after boyfriend Lewis Burton dialled 999, alleging that his girlfriend had been "trying to kill him" while he was asleep and that he had suffered a cracked head. Caroline was taken to hospital for a psychiatric assessment but she was deemed fit for interview.

Christine expressed that while she fully understands the importance of treating domestic violence seriously, the alleged assault involving her daughter was not of that nature. She further added: "I don't believe Caroline was treated as anyone else would have been."
