MIAMI — Tylor Megill has possibly thrown his last pitch as a starter this season, because the Mets have other plans for him.
on Friday night, manager Buck Showalter said the right-hander will likely become a reliever upon returning from the injured list in the coming weeks.and can’t return before mid-August, has been playing catch, according to Showalter.Megill has pitched to a 5.01 ERA in nine starts for the Mets this season. He has twice been on the IL.
“I don’t think you will see him necessarily starting again,” Showalter said. “The plan is to get him physically ready to start doing some things out of the bullpen.”“I think we’ll be very careful and make sure that’s all the way behind him before we go there,” Showalter said.
