The health guru, famed for his creation of the Fast 800 and 5:2 diets, discussed the benefits of the exercise in his podcast.
Doctor Michael Mosley has explained how beneficial Pilates can be in helping people who suffer with lower back pain and anxiety.
Michael explained the history behind Pilates in his podcast, saying: "Now Pilates is over 100 years old and is named after Josie Pilates who was born in Germany in 1883. "In fact, Josie Pilates didn't call his approach Pilates. He called it ControlLogix. These days, millions around the world swear by Pilates."
Michael also noted that the practice of Pilates focuses in on breathing, which in turn reduces the symptoms of anxiety. He said: "Because Pilates also emphasizes the importance of slow deep breathing, inhaling through the nose then a long slow, forceful exhale. It can also reduce anxiety."
