John Howard, Peter Dutton, Andrew Forrest and Jennifer Westacott are among those to pay tribute to outgoing AFR editor-in-chief Michael Stutchbury.
As he steps down, Stutchbury’s tenure and impact on corporate Australia was lauded by former prime ministers and other top politicians, business leaders and billionaires. He leaves the masthead as profitable as it has ever been, and with more subscribers than ever. He will return later this year as editor-at-large.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton noted Stutchbury had dedicated more than four decades to serving the media and the country. Former RBA governor Glenn Stevens said it was clear Stutchbury was a journalist motivated by in-depth issues. “The bigger thing about Michael has been that he fought ‘the good fight’: for pro-productivity economic reform, sound money, prudent public finances, international openness,” Mr Stevens said.
