What Howard doesn’t get mostly relates to betting sophistication, not football. For instance, with the exception of Ohio State’s Archie Griffin in 1974-75, Heisman winners do not repeat. One reason the feat is difficult is you have to compete against yourself. Young must be even better this season, or it will look to some portion of the electorate that he regressed.
Lastly, while Stroud has some Heisman contenders on his own roster in TreVeyon Henderson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Young’s teammate Will Anderson Jr. is picking up momentum. He is considered by many the clear best defensive player in the country. If he has a monster season, it could overshadow or at least distract from Young in a way that Stroud’s offensive teammates cannot.
