A new way to diagnose skin cancer has been validated in patient trials for the first time, paving the way for invasive skin biopsies to become a thing of the past. Currently, the only way to diagnose skin cancer is through a skin biopsy, which can only be performed by a doctor or dermatologist.

Device set to revolutionise how skin cancer is diagnosed in Australia. However, despite them being costly and painful, up to 40 per cent of biopsies are found to be non-cancerous. Stefan Mazy from DermR Health is on a mission to change the way biopsies are collected. “The current method of collecting a sample is quite invasive, there are stitches, anaesthetic involved and a large amount of tissue needs to be removed,” he told 7NEWS.
