Then, Microsoft came out and said they would “honor existing contracts” in terms of keeping Call of Duty on Sony, deals previously worked out by Activision. But that seemed to suggest an expiration date of those deals in the future. Now? Microsoft has once again shifted and is now being very, very explicit about its plans to keep Activision Blizzard games, including Call of Duty, multiplatform indefinitely. that they were planning to treat this like their Minecraft acquisition, which is a game they purchased but left running on all platforms where it already existed.
Again, this messaging was not present at the start of all this, but it seems like Microsoft may fear regulators killing the deal if it looks like they’re going to have too much of a publishing monopoly in the gaming space. But saying these games will remain multiplatform and their goal is toWill this work? That remains to be seen, as the deal has yet to be approved, but it certainly helps make the case for it.
