US Senators relieved as the threat of a federal government shutdown easesMinister for Education Jason Clare says the new ACCC report on childcare in Australia highlights the significant need for reform.
The report's recommendations include more regulation of the industry, as well as direct subsidies for under-served communities and Indigenous children. Mr Steele- John says serious action needs to be taken to implement the recommendations of the report effectively and efficiently. The funding package does not include aid to Ukraine, which was opposed by a growing number of far-right Republicans, but does include an increase in federal disaster assistance by $16 billion."We're just waiting for our colleagues from across the aisle, they're having a discussion and as soon as they come out, we hope to vote and pass the CR that came over from the House and then we have 45 days and then get back to regular order.
The review was commissioned by Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil following reports of human trafficking and exploitation within the visa system.
