Tour Down Under organisers and the South Australian government appear set to review a spectacular crash that seriously injured a fan on Saturday night. An elderly woman from NSW was rushed to hospital after multiple riders hit the barriers on the final lap of the men’s street circuit prelude around Adelaide. The leaders rounded the infamous Stag corner but a pack behind failed to do so at high speed.
“Obviously this is an amazing time of year in South Australia and the TDU is captivating all of us,” he said. “But tragically we did see a significant accident occur at the TDU where cyclists went into spectators. “It’s sad to report a woman did suffer relatively serious injuries. “She’s currently under care within our hospital system. “Obviously our thoughts are with her and her husband.” Officials are yet to issue an update on the woman’s exact condition or the extent of her injuries.
