After Barcelona manager Xavi confirmed his intention to stand down at the end of the season, Arteta was immediately installed as the favourite to take over at Camp Nou.
The 42-year-old issued an almost immediate and passionate denial that he was ready to jump ship and join his boyhood club, but his long-term Arsenal future is yet to be resolved. The Spaniard's existing deal, which he signed towards the end of the 2021/22 season, at Emirates Stadium expires next summer.
