The state and federal governments today announced they will dedicate a combined $30 million to the Whyalla airport, in addition to $3.14 million from the federal government to kick start the long-awaited foreshore development.
The mayor said the development will make the city a more attractive place to live, create more jobs and inject money into Whyalla 's economy.The state and federal government s will spend a combined $30 million on the Whyalla airport to allow for larger aircraft.
"We sat down with the council and said 'look, what more can state government do to show how serious we are to support this community but also to build, set it up for the future?' … And went through a range of different options and plans that they've got that were shovel ready."One of those "shovel ready" plans was Whyalla's long-awaited foreshore development, which the council has secured $3.14 million in funding from the federal government for.
"The experts have suggested, even from tourism point of view, it will generate at least $1 million a year in income, outside money coming into Whyalla … providing something for our residents — and to me, that's the most important thing," he said.
