Millman bows out, Zverev on track for breakthrough slam triumph | mickgleeson

John Millman hit the ball as well as he has for years. Unfortunately he was hitting it over the net to Alexander Zverev.

Millman was dogged in his second round match, pushing Zverev in long rallies and forcing him to work for his points in a slug-fest. But he lacked the venom in his game that the tall 24-year-old had. The Queenslander was unable to hit a single winner in the first set, compared with Zverev’s 14. It told a tale of the gap between them. From the back of the court Millman was able to trade blows to keep himself in points, but he lacked the big hit for the easy point.Getty Images
