'Mindless' jetski riders and recreational boaties are putting their lives at risk trying to take on a new coastal bar at Bribie Island, according to the local coast guard.Dozens of people have been rescued trying to cross the newly formed southern bar at Bribie IslandLocal authorities are working on a collaborative response to the island breakthrough

"The rider of that jetski had been rescued by another jet ski rider and had been conveyed back to shore," he said."And it was sort of intimated to us were we in a position [to retrieve it] but there was no way we could get anywhere near the bar on that low tide."He said it was just one of dozens of rescues in the past six weeks since the bar began to form."One guy ended up one and a half kilometres out to sea and was rescued by police, clinging to his jetski upturned.

He said the bar had now widened to more than 300 metres, making it a dangerous area for people to try to cross."It's just absolutely mindless to try and go out and play in it.Breakthrough 'no cause for concern'
