Nottingham's Robin Hood statue has been graffitied by 'mindless' vandals prompting anger from residents. The bronze-casted figure, which is part of a group of sculptures of Robin Hood and his Merry Men situated outside Nottingham Castle, had an anarchy sign painted on it during the afternoon of Thursday, September 28.
In 2018 the famous outlaw lost the bottom half of his bow, which was attributed to vandalism. The statue was also damaged in 2008 and twice in 2009.Karl Gibson, 40, who is the general manager of the historic Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem pub nearby, was upset by the graffiti and said it could negatively impact the venues around it. "In the Castle Quarter, we all really depend on the other attractions, like the Castle and the Robin Hood statue," he said.
"There's no real message to it either so it all seems a bit mindless - if you're trying to get a message across about anarchy Robin Hood is probably not the best figure to vandalise. We had thought with the Castle reopening we could build up a bit of momentum and positively around here, so it's a real shame to see this."
"I always see people taking photos with it, with families and friends posing next to him," Mr Dalpe added, before taking a photo next to the vandalised statue himself.
