Hundreds of the mink – that are not equipped to live in the wild – have been found dead near the farm they were released from.

Mark Stahl, a Northumberland County farmer who raises mink for their pelts, says the fence keeping the mink secured was cut in two places, allowing the mink to escape, according to aAbout 400 mink have died due to bacterial infections from unclean water and stress since then, Stahl says. He estimates another 50 mink were killed on nearby roads or killed by dogs.

“Whoever did this didn’t do these animals any favors.
