Minns’ donation organised by corrupt former MP remains in a trust | AlexSmithSMH
A political donation that former NSW Labor MP Ernest Wong corruptly organised for Chris Minns remains in a trust fund more than two years after the Opposition Leader offered to forfeit the money.
The ICAC also found Mr Wong, a former upper house Labor MP, gave his associate Jonathan Yee $3000 cash to spend on “purchasing seats at an event in support of a fundraising campaign for NSW Labor member of Parliament, Chris Minns”. Mr Minns was not accused of any wrongdoing. Mr Minns was not the leader at the time Mr Wong sourced the donation for his campaign, ahead of the 2015 election when Mr Minns was elected as the MP for Kogarah. The ICAC has found Mr Wong “engaged in serious corrupt conduct by misusing the privileges to which he was entitled as a member of the Legislative Council”.
