The state’s corruption watchdog has launched a major investigation into Liberal Party operatives and alleged impropriety at Hills Shire Council, triggering a raid on the home of former premier Dominic Perrottet’s brother
and forcing the government to halt a parliamentary probe.
Victoria Police confirmed in a statement that it assisted with the execution of a warrant at a property in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell. ASIC documents confirm Charles and his wife live at an address in Camberwell. It is understood the raid relates to claims firstalleging senior members of his party had been “paid significant funds” to introduce new councillors who would support future development applications for colourful developer Jean Nassif.
It is unclear if there are other subjects of search warrants; however, the parliamentary inquiry had sought evidence from witnesses Ellis, his mother Virginia Ellis, Jean-Claude, Jeff Egan, Jeremy Greenwood and Dylan Whitelaw. It is understood the inquiry also attracted other evidence that suggested concerns of impropriety between councils and developers may extend outside the Hill Shire Council area. While it found “deliberate and coordinated” evasion by witnesses produced a “gaping hole” in evidence, it suggested the testimony it did hear added weight to the allegations first outlined by Williams.
