Padres reliever Drew Pomeranz throws a scoreless inning in rehab appearance with Lake Elsinore Storm
Given all the setbacks over the last several months, Drew Pomeranz seemed to temper even his own expectations as he ready to move his rehab assignment to low Single-A Lak Elsinore.
He has not appeared in the majors since undergoing flexor tendon surgery in August 2021. He appeared in five rehab games last summer before shutting down his comeback. After ramping up the last few weeks in extended spring training, he woke up Thursday to a neck strain that delayed him yet again.“I am way better off than I was last year,” Pomeranz said. “That’s all I can hope for. Now I just have to get games and get back into game mode.
He threw seven of his 11 pitches for strikes, a baby but significant step as he looks to contribute in the last year of his four-year, $34 million deal.
