Chris Ellison’s Mineral Resources and the company’s lithium boss have parted way as speculation rages about a demerger.
Chris Ellison’s Mineral Resources has been rocked by the sudden departure of lithium boss Paul Brown as speculation rages about aMr Brown had been in charge of the company’s lithium growth plans and was considered one of Mr Ellison’s most capable lieutenants.“It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that Paul Brown has decided to move on from his position as chief executive officer – lithium,” he said.
In his seven years at MinRes, Mr Brown was pivotal in the company’s iron ore expansion. He ran Iron Valley, led the re-start of the Yilgarn operations and guided the Wonmunna mine into production.MinRes immediately appointed the executive manager of development, Josh Thurlow, as Mr Brown’s replacement at what is a crucial juncture for the lithium division.
Albemarle boss Kent Masters described Mr Ellison as a “colourful character” last week while in WA to visit the company’s lithium assets. When asked about a demerger of MinRes lithium division, Mr Masters said it might work in favour of Albemarle and noted his company was a buyer of lithium assets.
