His race weekend then got even worse on Sunday, immediately after the lights went out, with race stewards spotting a minor start infringement.Piastri was found to have marginally parked his car just beyond his start box, meaning he was hit with a five-second penalty for a false start. The McLaren driver — who had also slipped behind Haas’ Niko Hulkenberg after the start — served the penalty at his first pit stop.
Piastri recovered somewhat to haul himself back inside the points, but ultimately finished a distant seventh, behind his teammate Lando Norris in sixth, whoThe race, however, belonged to Mercedes who sealed a stunning redemption act by placing George Russell and Lewis Hamilton in first and second.
