A Queensland mum who miscarried one of two twins felt like she “lost him twice” after her newborn was cremated without her knowledge.
Emily Porter was pregnant with twins, boy Spencer Quinn and girl Gracie, when she discovered she’d miscarried her son. In order to ensure the safe delivery of his sister, she had to carry them both full term.
Instead of being allowed to honour her son during a special ceremony, she felt like she had suffered a second bereavement after finding out Spencer – whose ashes were to be brought home – had already been cremated alongside other miscarried newborns.
