Former Miss America Grace Stanke is advocating for nuclear power in Australia, a country that has banned it since the turn of the century. Stanke, a nuclear engineer, argues that nuclear power is safe, reliable, and a crucial part of the future energy mix. Her visit coincides with the opposition's push for nuclear power plants, but the plan faces criticism over cost, emissions, and public safety concerns.
Nuclear power has been banned in Australia since the turn of the century. Former Miss America Grace Stanke is the unlikely figure who wants to change that.
"Nuclear is safe, it's effective, it's reliable, it requires a small amount of land, it provides high paying jobs and helps build up strong communities around it." "To produce your entire lifetime's amount of electricity, we'll only create enough waste that it fits inside of a soda can," she said in response to environmental concerns.
She noted that Australia's only nuclear reactor OPAL in Lucas Heights, which opened in 2007, was built in just nine years and said that "if Australians can do that in nine years", this country can surely "do even better in the future".
