Olympics: Matty & the Missile are roaming the streets Paris discussing all the action from overnight.
James Magnussen has a simple message for the athletes complaining about the conditions in the Olympic Village: get over it.
It comes after British swim star Adam Peaty claimed athletes found worms in their food, while British Olympics chief Andy Anson claimed earlier that “raw meat being served to athletes”, and others have criticised the sweaty conditions with air conditioners only available in a limited number of competitors’ rooms.Podcast from Paris, the Australian swim great recalled his experience at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, where a monkey problem caused havoc in the athletes’ village.
“They had a problem with spider monkeys. For those that don’t know what a spider monkey is, It’s a little monkey about the size of your hand. They were running through the rooms, they were stealing food, getting into the food hall. “They’re walking these big baboons through the village with big fangs. And all of the spider monkeys were dispersing into the jungle around us.“So I mean, were there some distractions with this village? Yes. Was it ideal? No. But have we seen worse villages? Absolutely!”The environmentally-friendly Olympic Village, which cost a reported 1.5 billion euros to build , is housing 14,250 athletes and coaches during the Olympics.
