A wilderness rescue expert involved in the search for missing hiker Hadi Nazari says the search was one of the longest she has ever seen. Mr Nazari, 23, went missing in Kosciuszko National Park when he became separated from friends on Boxing Day.Mr Nazari told rescuers he survived the more than two-week ordeal on creek water and two muesli bars that he found in a hut on a mountain.
NSW State Emergency Service (SES) bush search and rescue unit deputy commander Caro Ryan said the search was drawn out and her team was emotional when the hiker was found. 'It certainly takes the cake for the longest that I've been involved in, over days,' Ms Ryan said. 'I rang some of the people in our team who'd done the greatest number of days on the search, including staying up in the bush overnight for several nights, and there were tears all round, just tears of happiness.' Bushwalking Australia president Jeff McDonell said the food that Mr Nazari found in the hut was probably the key to his survival. 'People leave excess food in them in case people are stuck in a storm or snowed in or something,' he said.a Personal Locator BeaconFrom Australia's outback to it's dense forests, hikers have narrowly made it out of the bush alive, in some cases surviving solely on insects.Missing trio in the NT outbackSupplied: NT PoliceIn November 2019, Phu Tran, Claire Hockridge and Tamra McBeath-Riley went missing in the Northern Territory after leaving Alice Springs for an afternoon trek.
