“A debris field was discovered within the search area by a ROV (remotely operated vehicle) near the Titanic,” the Coast Guard tweeted. “Experts within the unified command are evaluating the information.” It’s unclear if the debris is connected to Titan.

On board the vessel are Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate; Hamish Harding, a British businessman, pilot and space tourist; Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a French diver and Titanic expert; Shahzada Dawood, a Pakistani businessman, and his son Suleman Dawood. Underwater robots, along with an array of military ships and planes from the U.S. and Canada, have been assisting in the search. The vessel could possibly be as deep as about 12,500 feet below the surface.
