Some 270 pilot whales have become stranded on sandbars off Tasmania's remote coast, with authorities set to launch a rescue mission on Tuesday morning.
One the groups is stranded about 100 metres from a boat ramp.
Mr Deka said whale beachings in Tasmania were not uncommon but there hadn't been one of this size on the west coast for a decade.Authorities are asking people to keep their distance. Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment, marine conservation experts and Tasmania Police and offered his support.
