Touching Base: San Antonio Missions win two of three to open 2022 season

San Antonio Missions manager Phillip Wellman watches players during practice at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio on April 6, 2022.Highlighting the week that was and previewing the upcoming week for the San Antonio Missions:

As the San Antonio Missions’ new season began Friday, Wellman said he was in the same position as the rest of the Double-A managers, learning a fresh roster and testing different combinations to “see what sticks.” When the Missions announced their initial roster April 2, San Antonio did not boast any of the top 25 prospects in the San Diego Padres organization, per MLB.com.

“Maybe we don’t have as many prospects this year, but I think we have a lot of guys who are just outside that prospect list, or guys who could at the end of the year be on that prospect list,” Seagle said. “Everybody is working to get on that list. So, hopefully, but the end of the year, guys will start moving up.”After being acquired in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, Howell immediately became the highest-rated prospect in San Antonio.
