Missouri volleyball took on a ranked opponent for the third time this season when it faced 22nd-ranked Kentucky on Friday night in Columbia.After falling in three sets to both third-ranked Louisville on Sept. 3rd and 14th-ranked Tennessee on Sept. 20th, the Tigers showed marked improvement in stealing the third set from the Wildcats, but were ultimately defeated 3-1 .
Offensively, the Tigers looked strong. Thanks to good showings from Dilara Gedikoglu, Janet deMarrais and Jordan Iliff, Missouri kept each set competitive. After scraping out a hard-fought Set 3 victory, the Tigers came from 20-15 down in Set 4 to force extra points, but an untimely attack error from Iliff and an Emma Grove service ace proved to be the nail in the Tigers' coffin to give Kentucky the win. Iliff finished the match with 16 kills on 36 attempts. Gedikoglu had 17 on 37 tries and deMarrais had 15 on 42.
Friday's victory marked Kentucky's the 10th-straight win over the Tigers dating back to 2017. The Tigers will have a chance to end their losing skid later this season when they head to Lexington, Kentucky on Nov. 19th. The Tigers won't have long to dwell on their loss, as the team next faces No. 13 Arkansas at 3 p.m. Sunday in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
