Missy Higgins never thought in her 'wildest dreams' she'd be in the ARIA Hall of Fame, or inspire a young generation of musicians. This November, it becomes a reality.
Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame during the annual awards ceremony on Wednesday, November 20.
The first woman to be inducted since country icon Kasey Chambers in 2018, Higgins joins an illustrious list, including John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, Uncle Archie Roach, Nick Cave, Kylie Minogue and Tina Arena."It's not something that was a particular dream or goal of mine … I just thought it was for people towards the end of their career and a bit older, more established.
Her albums On A Clear Night and The Ol' Razzle Dazzle debuted atop the ARIA Albums Chart. Covers album Oz and Solastalgia reached the top three position, as did her 2022 mini-album of songs from ABC TV's acclaimed series Total Control. Melissa Higgins was in her final year of high school when her older sister, Nicola, and her "rock musician boyfriend" sent a cassette tape of Missy's piano-led 'All For Believing' in to triple j Unearthed, without her knowledge."I wrote the song when I was 15," remembered Higgins, a school boarder who would wake up each morning to Adam & Wil on triple j Breakfast. Although, "I'd never heard of Unearthed," she confessed.
, performing The Sound of White in full to rave reviews, and some deeply emotional reactions and singalongs across more than 37 sold out shows. Pre-album single A Complicated Truth is a song written for her five-year-old daughter, Luna, an attempt to simplify the complex difficulties of adult love.Songs like You Should Run and the soul-baring title track are about moving forward and letting of "fear, shame and guilt … harness a little bit of self-compassion."
