The NSW government is set to reintroduce speed camera warnings in a major backdown just a year after announcing they would be removed to improve road safety | Rabe9 JoshDye91

Speeding fines skyrocketed across NSW after the warning signs were removed late last year, prompting calls from the opposition to reintroduce the measures.

John Crozier, chair of the trauma committee at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, said he would be “appalled” if the government reversed its decision. But opposition roads spokesman John Graham said the rise in fines for offences under 10km/h to $36 million in the year to October compared to $3.1 million the previous year was evidence the government needed to act.“We want the old signs dusted off and in place by Christmas, as drivers hit the road for the holiday season.”into speed cameras that the government’s decision to remove warning signs was wrong, and the technology should not be used for entrapment.

“What a strange government which has done so well using science and evidence-based data to beat COVID, and yet they completely ignore the experts when it comes to road safety in the belief that warning people about speed cameras is going to win them votes,” he said.
