Mohamed Salah believes Liverpool are capable of winning a quadruple this season

May 25th is one of the most iconic days in Liverpool’s history, having won both their first and fifth European Cups on such a date.

“I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this,” he wrote. “We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. Meanwhile, Liverpool boast a one-point lead at the top of the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Man City, have one foot in the Europa League quarter-finals after a 5-1 first leg win over Sparta Prague, and face Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals next week. Another quadruple charge is in the works.

“Now, I love the whole squad, I think the players are really into football. Players want to achieve big things, they're really respectful and they ask a lot of questions, which is what I love.Salah has rarely missed a game for Liverpool because of injury during his time with the club, making his latest lay-off a strange sensation. He was sidelined for the Reds’ famous 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals back in 2019 though.

Now aged 31 and a member of Liverpool’s five-man leadership group, Salah is one of the elder statesmen in a youthful squad. Consequently, he has emerged as something of a mentor to the likes of Harvey Elliott. “They're human beings, they're not going to change in one day everything. The most important thing for me is to show the player that I really care about them - I do.

Such a process started with Liverpool’s previously untouchable front three being broken up as Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino moved on in successive summers. After signing Diogo Jota in 2020, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo were all brought in in the space of 12 months between January 2022 and January 2023.
