A Queensland couple who fought for a magpie to be returned to their care after it formed an unusual friendship with their two dogs have shared footage of the moment the trio were reunited after a long battle with the government. Molly the magpie had been surrendered to Queensland authorities by his Gold Coast family in March following several complaints over the lack of a permit.
Molly the magpie reunited with ‘best friend’ Juliette Wells and Reece Mortensen rescued the bird when he fell from a nest in 2020, and he formed a happy, yet unusual, relationship with the couple’s Staffordshire bull terriers Peggy and Ruby. The Department of Environment, Science and Innovation has now approved a specialised licence and returned Molly to the Gold Coast home. On Tuesday night, Wells and Mortensen shared “the moment we have all been waiting for”.
