San Diego-raised Luis Alberto Urrea will talk about his latest book 'Good Night, Irene' in two local appearances this month
Author Luis Alberto Urrea enjoys coming back to his hometown of San Diego and looks forward to seeing his favorite places.
Urrea has a book appearance Fridayat Warwick’s in La Jolla and he’ll be the features speaker at the WorldsAlive fundraiser June 12. He’s also appearing in August at the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Festival of Books. Phyllis McLaughlin de Urrea served as a Red Cross volunteer during World War II in a group nicknamed the “Donut Dollies.”My mother was a patriot with male relatives who had fought in World War I. She had been trapped in a difficult first marriage and yearned, I believe, not only to serve the country but to escape. She was 27 years old and thought she was leaving on a great adventure.
