If you’re tired of salespeople mistaking your doorstep for a shopfront, there are some things you can do. 9News
Every week we will break down, debunk and demystify your rights as a shopper in Australia. This week we are looking at door-to-door salespeople and the laws they must follow.
We all know life is getting more expensive than ever before, and how important it is to stretch every dollar you make. That's why each week we'll answer a question surrounding what shoppers are – and aren't – entitled to when dealing with retailers and manufacturers.Consumers have more power than they realise when dealing with door-to-door salespeople.I have been reading your money matters column and was wondering what my consumer rights are with door-to-door salespeople.
Few people know this, but door-to-door salespeople are actually required to tell you that you can ask them to leave at any time.Consumers can print and display a "do not knock" sign on their door to avoid interactions with salespeople. There's also specific times in which door-to-door salespeople are not allowed to knock. They must not visit on Sundays or public holidays, and on weekdays they can only visit between 9am and 6pm.
If you do purchase something from a door-to-door salesperson - and then immediately regret it - have no fear: under law you can change your mind and cancel the contract for any reason without penalty within 10 business days.Do you have a consumer question you want answered?
