The patient is being treated at an infectious disease unit and the risk to the public is low, officials say.
A person in England has been diagnosed with the monkeypox virus, the UK Health Security Agency has said.
Monkeypox is a rare viral infection from which most people recover in a few weeks, according to the NHS. The UKSHA's Dr Colin Brown said it was "important to emphasise that monkeypox does not spread easily between people and the overall risk to the general public is very low". Initial symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion, the UKHSA said.
