MONKEYPOX could become endemic in Europe if it makes the jump across to pets and wildlife and finds itself a permanent reservoir, experts have warned, calling for close monitoring of any animals exposed to infected people.

The European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, has said that despite the low risk, it is important to “remain vigilant” and ensure adequate contact tracing and diagnostics capacity is maintained.
