Liberal MP Andrew Hastie has called for the current leadership of the World Health Organisation to be “moved on” due to their “incompetence at a monumental scale” in handling the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

It comes as President Trump has suspended funding to the WHO after he accused the “China-centric” body of “severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus”. President Trump said the WHO would lose its $400 million US contribution as he launched an investigation into the organisation’s ties to China.

"Had the WHO done its job to get medical experts into China to objectively assess the situation on the ground and to call out China's lack of transparency, the outbreak could have been contained at its source with very little death," the president said. Mr Hastie told Sky News “I think Donald Trump has made a decision in the interests of the US government and the US people”.
