The creator of Moonlighting reveals the Bruce Willis show will be heading to streaming.
Glenn Gordon Caron, creator of the beloved series Moonlighting reveals that all five seasons of the dramedy will soon be available to stream. Caron, also known for his work on Medium and Bull, got his start on the series when it premiered in 1985. The series starred Cybill Shepherd and was the breakout role for Bruce Willis, who later became a household name for his roles in Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, and The Sixth Sense.
Moonlighting follows investigators Maddie Hayes and David Addison as they try to solve crimes through the City of Angels Detective Agency. The show was notable for combining multiple genres, becoming one of the first successful comedy dramas on television, and would feature more unorthodox elements including screwball comedy, fantasy sequences, and breaking the fourth wall.
Will Moonlighting Hold Up For Modern Audiences Given Willis' recent retirement, fans wishing to relive the veteran actor in his early days might find Moonlighting a good place to start. Though individual elements might not have aged well, any audience will find familiarity in the format of two detectives with romantic tension trying to solve crimes through witty banter and palpable chemistry.
Moonlighting paved the way for the comedy-drama detective series that's become a staple of major network media. Its strong leads and willingness to play with its structure set it above other shows of the time and is still fondly remembered by those who watched it. Though it may take some time, Caron seems sure that Moonligting will be coming to streaming eventually, and give fans of Willis a rare chance to see the legendary action star in his early days.
