Islamabad issued an ultimatum in early October to 1.7 million Afghans it says were living illegally in Pakistan: leave by November 1 or face arrest and expulsion. The government has blamed recent militant attacks on Afghans living in Pakistan.

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore announced Wednesday that he's introducing legislation to rename a post office in Dothan after a local veteran.Moore is looking to rename the post office, located at 379 North Oates St. in Dothan, after LaBruce"Bruce" Tidwell. Fellow U.S. House members from Alabama Robert Aderholt, Jerry Carl, Gary Palmer, Mike Rogers, Terri Sewell, and Dale Strong are co-sponsors of this legislation.

Tidwell enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 as a radio operator on the LCT 801. A Dothan native, Tidwell returned to the area after the war and began working at the Dothan Oil Mill in 1945. From there, he wanted to continue serving his community and decided to become a letter carrier in 1957. “From the radio room to the mail room, Navy veteran Bruce Tidwell was dedicated to serving his state and his country," Moore said."Bruce was known for altering his usual mail route during the Vietnam War in order to ensure the families of service members received their letters home as quickly as possible because he knew how much that would mean to those families."

People are also reading… Tidwell lived in the Dothan area for 86 years before relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2009. He lived there for three years before passing away in 2012 at the age of 89.
