The price of a gallon of gas has already surpassed $4 in California and Hawaii.

The Politico/Morning Consult poll, released Wednesday, showed that 76 percent of Americans say Putin would be responsible if prices at the pump increase because of Russia's escalating conflict with Ukraine. That compares with 58 percent who said Biden would bear responsibility.

Prices for a single barrel of oil have already been inching toward $100, the highest amount in roughly eight years. The national average for a gallon of gas as of Wednesday was $3.535—an increase of nearly $1 from a year ago—according to AAA. "Will the rest of the country follow suit? It's really hard to tell," Gross said."We just don't know. There's only one person who knows how this is gonna play out, and that's Putin."
