Authorities say they have linked the infestation to a property within the eradication zone, which will now be expanded. They also say that the case shows the mite was in Australia before it was first detected in Newcastle.
abc.net.au/news/varroa-mite-detection-prompts-eradication-zone-expansion/101697852More beehives will be destroyed in New South Wales after a new detection of varroa mite prompted the expansion of an eradication zone.Investigators believe the infestation was caused by hives being moved off a property in the eradication zone
The property is located in the surveillance, or "purple" zone, just outside the "red" eradication zone. "We're still trying to determine exactly what has occurred, but we believe that this person has a close relationship with a previously known infested premises," DPI incident controller Lloyd King said.
"This particular case we'd actually been on and surveyed it … because of their link to a known infested premises.
