Economists expect official data due this week will reveal another 22,500 Australians found work last month.
Forecasters expect employment to increase by 22,500, down from November’s unexpectedly strong gain of 64,000 workers.
Similarly, the government’s preliminary internet job vacancy index released on Friday showed a 0.3 per cent pullback in December, though it remains well elevated above the trend over the past decade. Between May and November, employment grew by 1.7 per cent, or 234,300 employees, with three industries – construction, retail trade and hospitality – accounting for three-quarters of the growth.
