Forecasters are warning of more rain on Queensland's tropical coast, where floodwater has already cut access to a section of the Bruce Highway, while temperatures remain over 40 degrees Celsius in the west.

Floodwaters have cut the Bruce Highway between Cardwell and Ingham, with police urging drivers not to risk their lives on flooded roads. "We might see a tropical low develop in the north-western Coral Sea later on this week and we have a 25 per cent chance from Saturday of that low becoming a tropical cyclone.
"Prepare to potentially be without power for a week. We may not be able to get there because of flooding," he said.
