RECALL ALERT: Abbott Nutrition is recalling one lot of Similac PM 60/40 powdered infant formula due to another report of a dangerous bacterial infection.
that a child consumed Similac PM 60/40 before getting a Cronobacter sakazakii infection and dying. The agency said the infection"may have been a contributing cause of death" for the child.
"We value the trust parents place in us for high quality and safe nutrition and we'll do whatever it takes to keep that trust," Abbott said in a statement emailed to CNN on Monday. There have been four reports of Cronobacter sakazakii infections in infants and one complaint of a Salmonella Newport infection related to products from the Sturgis facility,. Each of the five infants was hospitalized and Cronobacter may have contributed to the death of two, the agency added.
