More than 100 insurance claims are yet to be finalised after flooding destroyed 900 homes in Rochester two years ago. Despite this, the community is banding together to support those still in need.
Rochester's Tracie Kyne and her family moved into their new home this week, two years after the town flooded.The Insurance Council of Australia says eight per cent of insurance claims at Rochester remain open two years after floodwater devastated the town.
The hallway in Tracie Kyne's house was inundated with floodwater in 2022, leaving swathes of mud through the house.The Insurance Council of Australia has recommended all rebuilt homes in Rochester be raised by 600mm, something Ms Kyne said would cost her an additional $50,000. A spokesperson said the "very significant" flood damage, supply chain and labour shortages led to lengthy delays.Shipping containers holding household items can still be found outside homes waiting to be repaired or rebuilt.The Campaspe Shire Council is still surveying residents to find out how many people remain displaced after it was revealed that 200 people had yet to return home in May.
